Davidson beats Richmond 81-67 in first A-10 game

DAVIDSON, N.C. (AP) It took nearly a minute of battling under the basket for Jack Gibbs to drain a 3-pointer and spark Davidson to its first win in the Atlantic 10 Conference, beating Richmond 81-67 on Saturday night.

With A-10 commissioner Bernadette McGlade tweeting from the sellout crowd, Davidson won the tip, missed, got the board. Missed, got the board. Missed got the board. Gibbs' 3 finally got the Wildcats off and running.

Gibbs posted 23 points by halftime, hitting 5 of 6 3-pointers in the period. He finished with 32 points, his highest career total outside of 37 against CentralFlorida in November.

Tyler Kalinoski added 21 points and the Wildcats (10-2, 1-0) outrebounded Richmond 34-25 and remain unbeaten in seven home games. Davidson had been a member of the Southern Conference for 74 years.

Kendall Anthony led the Spiders (7-7, 0-1) with 15 points, Terry Allen adding 14.
