Hobbie, Kuakumensah help Brown defeat Mass-Lowell 58-49

PROVIDENCE, R.I. (AP) JR Hobbie led a balanced offense and Cedric Kuakumensah led a strong defense and Brown defeated Massachusetts-Lowell 58-49 on Monday.

Hobbie had 12 points, hitting all three of the Bears' 3-pointers. Leland King added 11 points and Steven Spieth had 10 as Brown (8-7) moved within one victory of matching the school record for most non-league wins.

Kuakumensah, the two-time Ivy League Defensive Player of the Year, had 14 rebounds as the Bears had a 45-33 advantage, and blocked six shots, moving him up two spots to fourth in league history with 199.

Matt Harris and Chad Holley had 10 points apiece for the River Hawks (7-7), who shot 29.6 percent from the field and went 11 of 18 from the foul line.

Hobbie had all three of his 3s in the first half as Brown opened a 29-19 lead. Lowell only shot 25 percent in the first half.
