Sam Houston cruises past Northwestern St. 75-64

HUNTSVILLE, Texas (AP) Michael Holyfield and Paul Baxter scored 13 points apiece to lead Sam Houston to a 75-64 win over Northwestern State on Monday.

DeMarcus Gatlin added 12 points and hauled in 11 rebounds, while Kaheem Ransom had 11 points, nine rebounds and five assists for Sam Houston (10-4, 2-0 Southland Conference), which extended its win streak to five.

Leading 32-26 at the break, Sam Houston continued to pull away in the second half and took its biggest lead of the game with a 3-pointer from Jabari Peters that made it 52-38 with 10:10 to go. The Bearkats shot just 36 percent from the floor and went 7 of 24 from long range but held a 54-40 rebounding advantage.

Northwestern State (6-7, 1-1) was held to 31 percent shooting from the field on 70 attempts.

Jalan West led the Demons with 17 points, while Zeek Wooley added 11 and grabbed 10 rebounds.
