Stony Brook beats Columbia 70-61

NEW YORK (AP) Jameel Warney notched his nation-leading 13th double-double on 25 points and 13 rebounds Tuesday to lead Stony Brook 70-61 over Columbia.

Rayshaun McGrew scored 15, Carson Puriefoy added 12, and the Seawolves (10-6) outrebounded the Lions 33-31.

Columbia led early, stayed close, then led 29-28 after a 3-pointer by Steve Frankoski with 2:01 to go, but Warney made back-to-back layups and Stony Brook led 32-29 at halftime.

Stony Brook opened the second half with a 13-9 run in which Warney scored six, but Frankoski pulled the Lions within two, 40-38, after hitting two free throws. Stony Brook surged on an 11-3 run capped by a 3 by Bryan Sekunda and led 58-51 with 2:07 left. Puriefoy made eight free throws in the final 1:21 for the Seawolves.

Frankoski scored 16 off the bench for Columbia (7-6), Cory Osetkowski scored 14, and Isaac Cohen grabbed 10 rebounds.
