Florida State's Mario Edwards Jr., Ronald Darby to enter NFL draft
Florida State defensive end Mario Edwards Jr. and cornerback Ronald Darby have decided to enter the NFL Draft, according to a news release from the school.
Edwards recorded 44 tackles, 11 tackles for loss and three sacks this season while earning a first-team All-ACC nod and helping the Seminoles go 13-1. In 36 games over three seasons, Edwards amassed 89 tackles, 23 tackles for loss and eight sacks.
“Mario was a tremendous player and person here at FSU and I want to thank him for three great years here,” Florida State coach Jimbo Fisher said. “Mario improved each year since he arrived on campus and I’m excited to see him continue that growth in the NFL. I’m excited for him and his family and I think he will have a great professional career.”
Darby recorded 79 tackles and 16 pass break-ups in 42 total games over three seasons. He was named the ACC's Defensive Rookie of the Year in 2012 and started nine games in 2013. Darby started every game this season and was named to the ACC's third-team defense.
“Ronald was a big part of our success here and helped us reach the next level over the last three years,” Fisher said. “I’m excited for Ronald and his family. He was a phenomenal player for us here at Florida State, and I think he has a chance to be a great pro.”
Florida State quarterback Jameis Winston and cornerback P.J. Williams have also indicated that they will enter the draft, while kicker Roberto Aguayo is set to return to school for his redshirt junior season.
