Texas Southern holds on to beat Prairie View 81-77

PRAIRIE VIEW, Texas (AP) Malcom Riley drove for a layup and made six free throws in the final 1:12 to secure Texas Southern's 81-77 victory over Prairie View A&M on Saturday night.

Prairie View would not fold down the stretch as John Brisco nailed two consecutive treys to close to 80-77 with 3 seconds remaining. Chris Thomas and Deverell Biggs made the final three free throws to stave off the Panthers.

Prairie View led 59-54 with 8:13 left in the second half. Riley, Madarious Gibbs and Jason Carter made free throws to give Texas Southern a 65-61 lead with 3:56 remaining.

Gibbs had 21 points, Thomas added 18, Riley finished with 13 and Biggs had 12 for Texas Southern (6-10, 3-0 Southwestern Athletic Conference).

Montrael Scott had 22 points and Tre Hagood and Jayrn Johnson added 11 apiece for Prairie View (2-14, 0-3).
