VMI pulls away from Furman in 2nd half, 83-73

GREENVILLE, S.C. (AP) QJ Peterson scored 18 points and helped fuel a second-half push as VMI pulled away to score an 83-73 Southern Conference victory at Furman Saturday.

The victory snapped a five-game VMI losing streak and the Keydets' first win at Furman since 2001.

VMI (6-11, 2-4 Southern) led by one, 44-43 at intermission, but Phillip Anglade converted a three-point play to give the Keydets the lead for good with 14:06 left and they quickly pushed the lead to as many as 12 points.

VMI was 26 of 59 from the field (44.1 percent) and knocked down 12 of 32 from behind the arc, overcoming a Furman offense that shot 47.9 percent (23 of 48), but converted only 5 of 12 from distance.

Tim Marshall added 12 points and Julian Eleby added another 11 for VMI.

Stephen Croone had 21 points to lead Furman (4-11 2-3).
