Saint Mary's holds off San Diego for 70-58 win

MORAGA, Calif. (AP) Brad Waldow scored 25, on 11-of-13 shooting, and Aaron Bright had 11 points and a career-high 11 assists to lead Saint Mary's to a 70-58 win over San Diego on Thursday night.

Saint Mary's (14-3, 6-0) led 36-21 at halftime but Thomas Jacobs scored seven points during a 17-5 run by San Diego (9-10, 2-5) to open the second half and pull the Toreros within three, 41-38.

A 6-2 spurt, capped by Brandon Perry's layup with 10:44 left, cut San Diego's deficit to 47-45, before back-to-back 3's from Kerry Carter and Bright sparked a 10-2 run and pushed the Gaels' lead back into double digits with 8 minutes to go.

San Diego's Duda Sanadze made a layup to make it 64-58 with 2:22 remaining, but the Toreros missed their last five field goals and last three free throws while Saint Mary's was 6 for 6 from the stripe to seal it.

Johnny Dee led San Diego with 14 points.
