LOS ANGELES (AP) Stephen Maxwell scored 21 points and hauled in 10 rebounds Saturday night to lead Cal State Northridge to a 55-48 comeback win in its Big West home opener against Cal Poly.

Devonte Elliott added 15 points on 6-for-7 shooting and Stephan Hicks had 13 as Northridge (6-13, 2-2 Big West) won its second straight. The Matadors hit 21 of 45 from the floor (47 percent) while holding Cal Poly to just 32 percent on 56 attempts.

Trailing by as many as seven early in the second half, Northridge steadily closed the gap before taking the lead for good on a bucket from Hicks that made it 45-43 with 5:28 to go and padded it 23 seconds later with another from Elliott to build a margin it would hold down the stretch.

Joel Awich led Cal Poly (8-8, 1-3) with 15 points and David Nwaba added 12 points.
