Columbia holds off Cornell's rally, 48-45

ITHACA, N.Y. (AP) Steve Frankoski made two free throws with 6 seconds left to help Columbia hold off Cornell 48-45 on Saturday.

Cornell's Robert Hatter made three free throws with 29 seconds left to get within 46-43 and he added a basket on the Big Red's next possession to make it a one-point game. Frankoski made two from the line and Devin Cherry missed a 3-pointer at the buzzer.

Kyle Castlin scored 12 points for Columbia (9-6, 1-0 Ivy), and Jeff Coby and Frankoski added 10 apiece.

Columbia led 39-27 before Cornell's Shonn Miller scored seven points during a 9-0 spurt to get the Big Red within 39-36 with 7:51 left.

Hatter led Cornell (8-9, 0-1) with 17 points.

Cornell hit just three of its first 19 shots and trailed 19-12. The Big Red made one more field goal in the first half and trailed 27-17 after being held to 16.7 percent shooting.
