Cal State Bakersfield beats UTPA 66-53

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (AP) Javonte Maynor scored 15 points, including a trio of 3-pointers, to lead Cal State Bakersfield to a 66-53 win over Texas-Pan American on Saturday night.

Aly Ahmed added 14 points, hitting 6 of 8 from the free-throw line, and Kevin Mays had 12 points to go with 11 rebounds as Bakersfield (5-13, 1-2 Western Athletic Conference) snapped a three-game skid.

Both teams shot comparably from the floor but Bakersfield hit 7 of 18 from 3-point range, while UTPA (7-12, 1-2) sank just one from beyond the arc.

Bakersfield broke away late in the first half with a 12-2 run bookended by 3-pointers from Cortez Conners to make it 32-18, and took a 41-26 advantage into the break. UTPA (7-12, 1-2) got as close as 55-49 on a tip-in from Isaiah Hobbs late in the second but the comeback stalled.

Dan Kimasa led UTPA with 14 points.
