Monmouth beats Fairfield 77-70

WEST LONG BRANCH, N.J. (AP) Max DiLeo scored 19 points, and made 11 of 12 free throw attempts, to lead Monmouth over Fairfield 77-70 on Sunday.

Monmouth (9-9, 6-2 Metro Atlantic) used a 20-3 run to go up 54-39 with 9:13 left and held off Fairfield down the stretch as DiLeo, Deon Jones and Justin Robinson combined to go 11 of 12 from the line inside of 59 seconds. For the game, Monmouth made 30 of 40 free throw attempts.

Fairfield (6-12, 4-4) used a 10-2 run near the end of the first half to lead 30-26 at intermission. Monmouth came out of the break with an 8-2 run of its own to tighten it back up.

Robinson finished with 16 points, six assists and a career-high eight steals for Monmouth. Jones had 14 points and Brice Kofane added 12 points and seven boards.

Marcus Gilbert paced Fairfield with 19 points and seven rebounds. Tyler Nelson had 15 points and Mike Kirkland Jr. added 13.
