Boise State rolls over San Jose State 86-36

BOISE, Idaho (AP) Derrick Marks scored 19 points as Boise State rolled to an 86-36 victory against overmatched San Jose State on Wednesday night.

Montigo Alford added a season-best 14 points as the Broncos (13-6, 3-3) recorded their third straight victory. The 50-point margin was the second largest in a conference game in Mountain West history.

Rashad Muhammad scored 13 points for San Jose State (2-17, 0-7), which lost its ninth straight game. The Spartans had nearly twice as many turnovers (20) as field goals (11) and shot just 25 percent from the field.

Boise State rolled off 16 straight points, over nearly four minutes, in the first half to open up a 24-point lead. Marks scored 14 in the first half and knocked down a 3-pointer with four seconds left in the half to give the Broncos a 45-17 advantage.

Boise State had a 31-2 edge in points off turnovers.

Spartans coach Dave Wojcik spent three seasons as an assistant under Boise State coach Leon Rice before becoming San Jose State's coach in 2013.

But Rice sure didn't take it easy on his former assistant.

Boise State scored nine of the game's first 10 points and the Spartans didn't make their first field goal until the 5:19 mark.

San Jose State trailed 17-5 less than eight minutes into the contest. Muhammad and Isaac Thornton each hit 3-pointers to get San Jose State within 19-11 before the Broncos went on a 16-0 surge.

The burst was capped by a ferocious drunk by James Webb III and he followed up with two strong defensive plays.

First, Webb intercepted a pass and it led to a dunk by David Wacker. Webb then stole another pass, leading to Chandler Hutchison's basket to make it 37-13 with 4:25 remaining.

San Jose State committed 13 turnovers in the half and was just 4 of 17 from the field.

In the second half, Nick Duncan's 3-pointer pushed the Broncos' lead to 50-19 and a short time later, Marks and Duncan each hit 3-pointers during a 12-0 surge.

The lead topped out at 79-28 on a 3-pointer by Dezmyn Trent with six minutes remaining as Boise State finished off its sixth consecutive victory over the Spartans.
