Samford gets first conference win, 89-78 over UNC Greensboro

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (AP) Darius Jones-Gibson hit 6 of 8 shots and 8 of 10 free throws for 20 points to lead Samford past UNC Greensboro 89-78 on Thursday night for its first Southern Conference win of the season.

Marcus Johnson came off the bench to score 18 points for Samford (8-14, 1-8). Tyler Hood scored 15, Michael Bradley had 12 points and 10 rebounds, and Christen Cunningham added 10 points.

Jones-Gibson had just six points at halftime, but his Bulldogs still held a 43-35 lead.

Kayel Locke scored 19 points and Tevon Saddler added 18 for UNC Greensboro (6-14, 2-5). Locke was 8 of 12 from the field and Saddler hit 6 of 8. Diante Baldwin added 13 points and eight assists.

Both teams shot over 50 percent, but Samford converted 21 of 25 free throws while UNCG was 12 of 17.
