Providence holds on in OT, tops Xavier 69-66

PROVIDENCE, R.I. (AP) LaDontae Henton and Kris Dunn combined to score 44 points and Providence needed overtime to withstand a Xavier comeback as the Friars took a 69-66 win Thursday night.

Xavier trailed by 12 points at halftime and scored the final nine points of regulation to force overtime -- a run bracketed by Myles Davis' 3-pointer and capped by his layup with :28 left.

J.P Macura's layup with 1:24 left in overtime gave the Musketeers the lead, 64-62, but Henton got to the basket for a layup to pull the Friars even, then converted a three-point play.

Henton finished with 24 points and 10 rebounds for Providence (15-5, 5-2 Big East). Dunn finished with 20 points, 10 boards and eight assists.

Matt Stainbrook scored 17 points and grabbed 10 rebounds to lead Xavier (12-7, 3-4). Davis added 16 points and Jalen Reynolds had 16 points and 13 boards.
