Three players were ejected after a fight broke out during a women’s college basketball game between Auburn and Alabama on Thursday.

Alabama led 28-15 with 1:14 remaining in the first half when Auburn guard Hasina Muhammad and Alabama guard Breanna Hayden got tangled up after a free throw. Hayden threw a punch and hit Muhammad before the fight was broken up.

Hayden, Muhammad and Alabama guard Meoshonti Knight, who was on the bench at the time of the fight, were tossed.

"I have no idea what completely happened, but BreBre [Hayden] apologized to her team immediately after that and knew that she had made a mistake," Alabama coach Kristy Curry said, according to the Associated Press. "So again, I'll have to go back and evaluate."

Alabama won the game 51-50, thanks in part to 29 turnovers by Auburn.

"You're always disappointed in situations like that," Auburn coach Terri Williams-Flournoy said. "You never want to see either player from either side ejected from the game. This is the game that they love, the game that they practice to play, and so you never want that to happen."

The teams next play on March 1 in Auburn.
