Alabama State beats Alcorn State 84-60

MONTGOMERY, Ala. (AP) Jamel Waters had 18 points on 8-of-12 shooting with six rebounds and five assists to lead Alabama State over Alcorn State 84-60 on Saturday night.

Waters scored 14 in the first half and Alabama State (10-5, 6-0 Southwestern Athletic Conference) closed the period with eight straight points to lead 43-26. The Hornets kept their lead between 15 and 27 during the second half with an 8-0 run midway to push it to 59-36.

Luther Page added 14 points, Maurice Strong scored 13 and Steve Rogers Jr. 10. Strong also grabbed 12 boards for the Hornets, who outrebounded Alcorn State 50-34.

Michael Davis led Alcorn State (4-15, 3-4) with 15 points. Keynan Pittman scored 10 and Marquis Vance had nine points and 12 rebounds. The Braves' leading scorer, Leantwan Luckett (17.7 points per game), was just 1 of 11 from the field and finished with five points.
