Rider beats Canisius 59-46 in battle for 3rd place in MAAC

LAWRENCEVILLE, N.J. (AP) Xavier Lundy drained a 3-pointer as Rider opened the second half on a 9-0 run and Teddy Okereafor added six straight free throws at the end as the Broncs held on to defeat Canisius 59-46 in a battle for third place in the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference on Saturday night.

Lundy finished with five points and Matt Lopez led the Broncs (13-8, 7-3) with 12 before fouling out with 1:44 remaining. Rider has won 11 of its last 14.

Shawn Valentine added 11 points and Jimmie Taylor and Okereafor scored 10 each.

Canisius (11-8, 6-4) had a three-game win streak snapped in which the Griffins were averaging 75 points per game. Rider forced Canisius into a season-high 19 turnovers - turning them into 28 points - and just 29.5-percent shooting (13-44). Canisius also shot a chilly 64-percent at the line.

Zach Lewis led the Griffins with 14 points.
