Nicholls State beats Central Arkansas 71-61

CONWAY, Ark. (AP) Ja'Dante Frye scored 19 points on Saturday to lead Nicholls State to a 71-61 win over Central Arkansas, winning their first road game of the season and handing the Bears their sixth straight Southland League loss.

T.J. Carpenter scored 19 points and Quinton Thomas 17 for the Colonels (5-11, 2-4).

Nicholls State led 13-9 on a 3-pointer by Marquis Nelson, but the Bears pulled ahead 28-25 on a 3-pointer by Mike Martin, then led 32-30 with six seconds left after two free throws by Jordan Howard. Frye's layup at the halftime buzzer tied it at 32.

The Colonels opened the second half with a 10-2 run and led 44-36 after a jumper by Frye, then scored seven unanswered points to lead 56-45 while the Bears went scoreless for nearly three minutes.

Howard led Central Arkansas (0-16, 0-6) with 18 points and Mathieu Kamba had 15 with 10 rebounds.
