Washington dismisses center Robert Upshaw
Washington coach Lorenzo Romar announced on Monday that sophomore center Robert Upshaw has been dismissed for violating team rules.
Upshaw transferred to the Huskies from Fresno State after being dismissed for what the school called violations of athletic department policy in August 2013.
In September, Romar reportedly said that Upshaw did not sit on the bench for home games in the second half of his redshirt season (2013-14) because he needed to focus on off-the-court issues.
"We wish Rob well as he moves forward in his life, and we will do our best to support him in the future," Romar said in a news release on Monday.
In his first season on the court for the Huskies, Upshaw had helped the team compile a 14-5 record while emerging as a potential first-round NBA draft pick.
As of Monday, DraftExpress projected Upshaw as the No. 19 pick in 2015.
Over 19 games, Upshaw led the team with 8.2 rebounds per game and ranked third with 10.9 points per game while shooting 59.3 percent from the field.
He also set a program, single-season blocks record with 85 and led the nation with an average of 4.5 swats per game.
The Huskies, picked to finish sixth in the Pac-12 in the league's preseason media poll, currently sit in that position following Sunday's loss at Utah.
Washington will host Stanford on Wednesday.
