Oregon offers scholarship to Eastern Washington QB Vernon Adams

Eastern Washington junior quarterback Vernon Adams Jr. has received a scholarship offer from Oregon and will visit the school this weekend, he toldThe Spokesman-Review.

Adams has been the runner-up for the Walter Payton Award in each of the last two seasons. The award is given to the top player at the FCS level. The junior threw for 3,483 yards, 35 touchdowns and eight interceptions in 2014, missing four games due to a broken foot. 

"They told me a lot of things I wanted to hear," said Adams of Oregon. "I’m not saying I’m leaving Eastern, but I’m just going to check it out and see what they have to say."

In 2013, Adams threw for 4,994 yards, 55 touchdowns and 15 interceptions. He has a career 64.8 percent completion percentage and 282.1 yards per game average, including a 348.3 average last season.

The Ducks' starting quarterback of the last three years, Marcus Mariota, recently declared for the NFL draft. According to The Spokesman-Review, Adams is scheduled to graduate in June and could transfer to use his remaining year of eligibility at another school next season.

Oregon and Eastern Washington open the 2015 season by playing each other on Sept. 5.
