South Carolina State holds on to beat Delaware State 78-74

ORANGEBURG, S.C. (AP) Edward Stephens scored 21 points and four South Carolina State players reached double figures in a 78-74 victory over Delaware State on Saturday night.

Stephens finished 7 of 13 from the floor and 5 of 5 from the line. Greg Mortimer scored 13 points, Darryl Palmer had 12 points, Tashombe Riley chipped in 10 points for South Carolina State (8-15, 6-3 Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference). Tyvoris Solomon dished out five assists for the Bulldogs, who have won two straight games and three of their last four.

Amere May scored 22 points on 7-of-15 shooting to lead Delaware State. Kendall Gray had 21 points and Kendal Williams added 20 points and eight assists for the Hornets.

Delaware State (10-11, 4-3) pulled within 74-72 with 30.3 seconds left after trailing by as many as 14 points in the second half.
