Sam Houston State beats Houston Baptist 63-52

HUNTSVILLE, Texas (AP) Jabari Peters had 13 points, six rebounds and three steals on Saturday to lead Sam Houston State over Houston Baptist 63-52.

Sam Houston (16-5, 8-1 Southland) led 53-30 after 10 straight points in the second half, forcing four turnovers and holding Houston Baptist (9-9, 4-4) scoreless on 12 field goal attempts over a 5:45 stretch.

Michael Holyfield's transition dunk gave the Bearkats their largest lead at 57-32 with 6:59 left. HBU responded with an 18-2 run over the next 5:04 to cut the deficit down to nine points. Kaheem Ransom made a pair of free throws at 1:49 and Terry Harris' missed jumper for HBU with 56 seconds sealed it for the Bearkats, who have won 10 of the last 11.

Holyfield added eight points, 10 rebounds and three blocks and Ransom had 10 points and six assists.

Ricmonds Vilde had 12 points and Colter Lasher 10 for the Huskies.
