Texas Southern beats Alabama A&M 68-65 in overtime

HOUSTON (AP) Nick Shepherd grabbed a rebound and slammed home a dunk and Madarious Gibbs made two late free throws to give Texas Southern a 68-65 overtime victory over Alabama A&M on Monday night.

Gibbs split a pair of free throws to leave Texas Southern trailing 65-64 with 2:47 left in overtime. Alabama A&M missed its next six shots. Gibbs missed a layup with 19 seconds left, but Shepherd was there for the rebound and the put-back dunk to give the Tigers their first lead in the extra period.

Tonnie Collier finished with 18 points, Gibbs totaled 17, with 10 assists, and Malcolm Riley had 15 for Texas Southern (11-11, 8-1 Southwestern Athletic Conference).

Ladarius Tabb, who had 16 points and 13 rebounds, had a chance to win it for the Bulldogs (5-14, 4-5) in regulation, but his jump shot rolled off the rim as time expired. Nicholas West and Rakiya Battle had 13 apiece.
