Boston College brings in more 'dudes'

BOSTON (AP) Boston College coach Steve Addazio made it his goal to recruit well in Massachusetts. On Wednesday, he announced that the Eagles had commitments from four of the top five players from the state.

''You always want to build your fence around your school,'' Addazio said after revealing the school's recruiting class of 26 players. ''You need to win on those guys. We didn't win on every one, but we won on a lot of them. That's critically important to do. If you don't do that, history really shows that you'll struggle.''

Quarterback Elijah Robinson, defensive lineman Zach Allen and receiver Nolan Borgersen are the most highly rated players on BC's commit list. Among the in-state, incoming players are tight ends Chris Garrison and Jake Burt and offensive linemen Chris Lindstrom and Aaron Monteiro.

Seven members of the recruiting class in all are from Massachusetts, with four more from Connecticut and 15 within a five hour's drive of the campus. The Eagles added 13 players on offense and 13 on defense, with two quarterbacks, a running back and four receivers.

Addazio said his goal was to fill needs at certain positions and increase team athleticism. And, you can never have enough ''dudes'' - Addazio's catch-all term for players who are hard-working, disciplined and intelligent.

''I hope they're all dudes,'' the coach said. ''That's what we're going find out. That's the goal right now. We think we got some dudes, but that remains to be seen.''
