Sam Houston State runs past Texas A&M-Corpus Christi 67-59

HUNTSVILLE, Texas (AP) Kaheem Ransom scored 19 points to lead Sam Houston State to a 67-59 victory over Texas A&M-Corpus Christi on Saturday.

The win keeps Sam Houston State (18-5, 10-1) one game behind Southland Conference leader Stephen F. Austin. The Islanders (12-10, 7-3) now are tied for third with Northwestern State.

The Bearkats, who have held opponents to 60 points per game, limited A&M-Corpus Christi to just 12 points in the first half, taking a 26-12 lead at the break. Texas A&M-Corpus Christi clawed back in the second half and closed to 63-56 with 40 seconds left following a Rashwan Thomas layup.

Paul Baxter had two steals and made one free throw and Ransom made two free throws in the final 34 seconds to seal the win.

DeMarcus Gatlin had 14 points and Dakarai Henderson added 12 for SHSU. Michael Holyfield had 11 rebounds.

John Jordan led the Islanders with 15 points.
