BYU coach Dave Rose gets extension through 2019-20 season

SALT LAKE CITY (AP) BYU basketball coach Dave Rose has received a five-year extension to keep him at the head of the program through the 2019-20 season.

Athletic director Tom Holmoe announced the deal Monday.

Rose is in his 10th season, has gone 250-86 and has taken the Cougars to seven NCAA tournaments. He also took the team to two NITs.

BYU guard Jimmer Fredette was named the Player of the Year in 2011.

Holmoe says, ''He is an incredible leader and one of the best coaches in the country. ... We are excited about the future of the basketball program.''

The Cougars (18-8) host Saint Mary's on Thursday.
