Nelson leads Utah Valley past NAIA Saint Katherine 77-55

OREM, Utah (AP) Zach Nelson had 17 points and Marcel Davis added 14 to lead Utah Valley to a 77-55 victory over NAIA's Saint Katherine College in a non-conference game on Monday night.

Davis also had eight assists. Mitch Bruneel added 12 points and Donte Williams chipped in 11 for Utah Valley (9-14). Alex Carr grabbed 10 rebounds.

Saint Katherine stayed close, trailing 38-31 at the half, but Nelson drove for a layup to start the Wolverines on a 10-0 run to open the second half. Saint Katherine's Dante Miller had a layup, LeSean Galbreath hit a jump shot and Miller made a 3-point jumper to close to 54-44 midway in the second half. Utah Valley answered with an 8-0 run and the Firebirds never threatened again.

Miller led Saint Katherine with 16 and Araqad Abramian chipped in 11.
