Colorado State holds on to beat New Mexico 70-59

FORT COLLINS, Colo. (AP) J.J. Avila scored 18 points and Joe De Ciman added 14 as Colorado State beat New Mexico 70-59 on Tuesday night.

Daniel Bejarano had 12 points for Colorado State (21-4, 8-4 Mountain West). The Rams entered the game ranked second in the conference with 14 assists per game and had 14 on 20 field goals against the Lobos.

Colorado State made three consecutive 3-pointers to open the game on a 10-2 run and held New Mexico without a field goal for 4-plus minutes late in the half. John Gillon's 3-pointer with two seconds left gave the Rams a 35-19 lead.

CSU started the second half on a 9-2 run for a 44-21 lead - its largest of the game. New Mexico pulled within 57-49 with 2:48 left, but would get no closer.

Deshawn Delaney led New Mexico (14-10, 6-6) with 21 points. The Lobos had not given up 70 or more points all season.
