Hinds' 3-pointer gives UMass 55-53 win over Bonnies

ST. BONAVENTURE, N.Y. (AP) Jabarie Hinds hit a 3-pointer with eight seconds remaining to give Massachusetts a 55-53 victory over St. Bonaventure on Wednesday night for the Minutemen's fifth consecutive win and a four-way tie for first place in the Atlantic 10.

Hinds' winner came after Derrick Gordon made a steal for the Minutemen (15-9, 8-3). The Bonnies' Andell Cumberbatch missed a last-second 3-pointer.

The Minutemen trailed 53-47 with 2 1/2 minutes but avoided a season sweep by the Bonnies (13-9, 6-5) by scoring the final eight points.

Trey Davis scored 12 points and Cady Lalanne 10 for UMass, which, at 46.3 percent, shot nearly 10 percent better than St. Bonaventure and made 10 more free throws to make up for 20 turnovers.

Marcus Posley scored 13 points for the Bonnies with Cumberbatch adding 12 and Dion Wright 10.

UMass led 30-23 at halftime after shooting 52.6 percent before St. Bonaventure rallied for a six-point lead.
