Florida Gulf Coast tops Lipscomb, 76-74

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) Jamail Jones scored 24 points and grabbed a half-dozen rebounds as Florida Gulf Coast held off Lipscomb, 76-74 Saturday to maintain its one-game lead over North Florida atop the Atlantic Sun Conference.

The victory pushes Florida Gulf Coast (19-7) to 9-1 in conference. North Florida (16-11, 8-2) beat Kennesaw State 67-51 Saturday.

The Eagles led by 11 points after Julian DeBose converted a pair of free throws with 4:53 left, but Lipscomb rallied. Josh Williams knocked down a pair of 3-pointers and Malcolm Smith scored nine points in the final minutes, but the Bisons' comeback fell short.

Bernard Thompson scored 15 points for Florida Gulf Coast and Brett Comer added 11 points and dished off 10 assists.

Smith finished with 23 points, converting 10 of 13 attempts from the free-throw line, to lead Lipscomb (11-14, 5-5). Williams added 15 points.
