UNC Wilmington beats Northeastern 66-61, leads CAA

WILMINGTON, N.C. (AP) Addison Spruill scored 16 points to lead UNC Wilmington back atop the Colonial Athletic Association with a 66-61 victory over Northeastern on Saturday night.

The Seahawks (15-10, 10-4) are tied with William & Mary (16-9, 10-4) for first place in the CAA.

Spruill was 6 of 12 from the floor. Craig Ponder scored 15 points, Jordan Talley had 14 and Freddie Jackson chipped in 10 for UNC Wilmington.

David Walker hit a jumper to pull Northeastern within 56-55 with 1:56 to play. Jackson answered with a 3-pointer, and the Seahawks made 7 of 8 free throws down the stretch to seal it.

Scott Eatherton scored 23 points to lead Northeastern (17-10, 9-5). Walker finished with 11 points and five assists for the Huskies, who drop into a second place tie with James Madison (16-11, 9-5).
