Sam Houston State beats Abilene Christian 71-49

HUNTSVILLE, Texas (AP) Aurimas Majauskas had 18 points and a career-high tying nine rebounds to help Sam Houston State beat Abilene Christian 71-49 on Monday night.

Michael Holyfield finished with 12 points and 12 rebounds in just 14 minutes and Dakarai Henderson scored 11 for Sam Houston State (21-5, 12-1 Southland Conference), which has won seven straight, and 16 of its last 17, games.

The Bearkats shot just 37.9 percent from the field, but hit 22 of 28 free throws, forced 18 Abilene Christian turnovers and outrebounded the Wildcats 40-27 - including 18-5 on the offensive glass.

Sam Houston State scored 20 of the final 27 first-half points to take a 37-20 lead into the break.

Austin Cooke scored 13 and LaDarrien Williams added 11 for Abilene Christian (9-16, 3-9), which trailed by double digits throughout the second half.
