Maryland Eastern Shore holds off Howard's second-half rally

PRINCESS ANNE, Md. (AP) Devin Martin scored 23 points and Mike Myers added 22 to help Maryland Eastern Shore beat Howard 71-60 on Monday night.

Myers hit 14 of 16 free throws as UMES (15-13, 8-5 Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference) made 23 of 25 overall. Ryan Andino added 11 points and Dominique Elliott 10.

The Hawks led by as many as 13 points, 49-36, after back-to-back 3-pointers by Andino. Howard scored the next nine to pull within 49-45 midway through the second half.

James Miller's basket with 4:31 remaining in the game gave Howard its first lead since the 7:40 mark of the first half. UMES answered with a 9-0 run, with seven straight free throws by Myers and Walker, for a 66-58 lead.

Miller led Howard (13-13, 7-5) with 17 points. James Carlton had nine points, ending a streak of 15 straight games scoring in double figures.
