South Carolina head coach Frank Martin has suspended sophomore forward Demetrius Henry and freshman guard/forward Shamiek Sheppard for the remainder of the regular season, the team announced on Tuesday.

The suspensions were due to "conduct detrimental to the team." Martin said he will revisit the status of both players before the SEC tournament.

"Our program is based on helping young people grow as individuals and helping them succeed off the court in life after college, and winning on the court as a member of our team," Martin said. "We have expectations and responsibilities that we ask our players to meet on an every day basis, and unfortunately this has not happened."

Henry is averaging 6 points and 3.2 rebounds in 19.5 minutes per game this season. He has scored in double figures five times, most recently a 12-point, eight rebound game against Tennessee last month.

Sheppard has played in seven games as a freshman, averaging 1.6 points and 1.3 rebounds in 6.9 minutes. He is a former three-star prospect from Waynesboro, Va.

The Gamecocks are 12-12 on the season and play Georgia on the road on Tuesday.
