DURHAM, N.C. (AP) Rivals North Carolina and Duke came together to honor late Hall of Fame Tar Heels coach Dean Smith before Wednesday night's game in Cameron Indoor Stadium.

Shortly before the national anthem, players and coaches for both teams walked to center court. Duke coach Mike Krzyzewski hugged fellow Hall of Famer Roy Williams of UNC and the teams knelt together around the midcourt circle for a moment of silence.

Many Duke students and fans also wore dark blue shirts bearing Smith's first name in honor of the retired coach, who died earlier this month.

He had retired in October 1997 as the winningest coach in men's Division I basketball history with 879 wins in 36 seasons, a record now held by Krzyzewski.
