Mount Saint Mary's crushes LIU Brooklyn, 82-65

EMMITSBURG, Md. (AP) Byron Ashe came off the bench to score 23 points, one off his career-high, to help lead Mount Saint Mary's to an 82-65 win over LIU Brooklyn on Thursday night.

Gregory Graves finished with 18 points and five rebounds and Andrew Smeathers added 15 points for the Mountaineers (13-13, 9-6 Northeastern Conference), who have won three of their last four.

Defensively, Mount Saint Mary's stifled the Blackbirds for much of the night, holding them to 37.3 percent shooting from the field including just 3 of 19 from 3-point range.

The Mountaineers had a 12-0 late in the first half, capped off by a Taylor Danaher layup, that helped them to a 38-30 lead at halftime. Mount Saint Mary's started the second period on a 12-2 run which pushed its lead past double-digits and put the game away.

Martin Hermannsson led LIU Brooklyn (12-14, 8-7) with 11 points.
