Maryland has "mutually agreed to part ways" with defensive coordinator Brian Stewart, the school announced Thursday. Inside linebackers coach Keith Dudzinski was promoted to replace him.

The Terrapins finished 7-6 last season and ranked 87th in scoring defense, allowing 30.2 points per game. They ranked 97th in total defense with 438 yards allowed per game.

Report: UCLA close to hiring former Penn State DC Tom Bradley

Stewart, who also coached the defensive backs, was Maryland's defensive coordinator since 2012. He had previously been the defensive coordinator at Houston and with the NFL's Dallas Cowboys.

Maryland begins their 2015 schedule on September 5 with a home contest against the Richmond Spiders, kicking off a non-conference slate that includes a road trip to West Virginia on September 26.
