Bland leads UC Riverside's 48-44 comeback over Cal Poly

RIVERSIDE, Calif. (AP) Jaylen Bland scored 14 points, grabbed seven rebounds and hit a pair of late free throws on Saturday to cap UC Riverside's 48-44 comeback win over Cal Poly.

The Higlanders (14-13, 7-6 Big West) trailed 41-34 with 11:04 left but outscored Cal Poly 10-0 over the next 10 1/2 minutes to take the lead for good.

Joel Awich made 1 of 2 free throws with 26 seconds left to end the Mustangs scoring drought. Nick Gruninger answered with two from the foul line to put Riverside up 46-42 with 21 seconds left, and Michael Bolden and Bland traded free throws in the final seconds.

Gruninger finished with 10 points for the Highlanders who won their third straight.

Ridge Shipley had 15 points and Brian Bennett had 12 for Cal Poly (13-12, 6-7) which saw its three-game winning streak snapped.
