Detroit shoots nearly 70 percent, beats Youngstown St. 83-70

YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio (AP) Juwan Howard Jr. scored 22 points with four 3-pointers and Jarod Williams tossed in 16 as Detroit made nearly 70 percent of its field goals to defeat Youngstown State 83-70 on Saturday night.

The Titans (13-17, 6-4 Horizon League) hit their first 13 shots and made 30 of 44 from the field for a season-best 68.2 percent. Detroit also hit nine3-pointers and notched 18 assists as 10 of 11 players scored. Williams made his 16 points with 6 of 7 from the field and 4 of 6 from the foul line. Paris Bass added 11 points.

Shawn Amiker led Youngstown State (11-18, 2-12) with 19 points, including 8 of 8 from the foul line, and DJ Cole added 13 points with Marcus Keene chipping in 12.

Detroit owned a 28-17 edge in rebounds, including 22 off the defensive glass. Youngstown State had 10 steals.
