Central Michigan dominates Eastern Michigan, 72-56

YPSILANTI, Mich. (AP) John Simons had a season-high 23 points, including a career-high seven 3-pointers, and seven rebounds to help lead Central Michigan past rival Eastern Michigan 72-56 on Tuesday night.

Josh Kozinski added 18 points off the bench for Central Michigan (21-5, 11-4 Mid-American Conference), which has won six straight games and recorded its first sweep of Eastern Michigan since 2011-12. The Chippewas' 21 wins are their most in a season since 2002-03, when they won 25 games.

Central Michigan hit 16 of 37 3's, 11 more than Eastern Michigan. The Chippewas currently rank third in the nation in 3-pointers made per game (10.4).

The Eagles (17-11, 6-9) opened the game on an 8-2 run. But Central Michigan quickly responded, ripping off a 23-5 stretch to take a double digit lead. The Chippewas pushed the lead as high as 21 late.
