Southern Miss holds off Texas-San Antonio 70-66

HATTIESBURG, Miss. (AP) Chip Armelin scored 21 points, including the go-ahead 3-pointer, to lift Southern Miss to a 70-66 win over Texas-San Antonio on Thursday night.

Matt Bingaya contributed 17 points while dishing out a career-high 10 assists and Shadell Millinghaus sank four 3-pointers as Southern Miss (8-19, 3-13 Conference USA) shot 46.4 percent from the floor on 56 attempts to snap a two-game skid and avenge a Jan. 8 loss to UTSA. It was Bingaya's fourth double-double of the season.

After blowing a nine-point halftime advantage, Southern Miss retook the lead the lead for good during a 16-3 run late in the second half that included Armelin's go-ahead 3. The run ended with the Golden Eagles ahead 66-58 with 1:22 left.

Ryan Bowie led Texas-San Antonio (13-3, 7-8) with 19 points and 10 rebounds, while Keon Lewis added 16 points and Jeromie Hill had 12 and nine rebounds.
