Campbell cruises to a 65-50 win over Winthrop

BUIES CREEK, N.C. (AP) Reco McCarter and Andrew Ryan combined for 31 points, leading Campbell to a 65-50 victory over Winthrop on Thursday night.

Campbell led 30-25 at intermission. McCarter hit back-to-back treys to open the second half, sparking a 12-4 run, and Winthrop could get no closer than nine points the rest of the way. Curtis Phillips converted two at the line, Quinton Ray made a layup and McCarter split a pair of free throws for a 19-point advantage with 2:50 left, the largest of the contest.

McCarter finished with 17 points and Ryan had 14 for the Camels (10-20, 4-13 Big South). Ray added a career-high 11 points while Phillips chipped in 10 with 10 rebounds.

Keon Moore scored 16 points to lead Winthrop. The Eagles (16-12, 11-6) shot 2 of 17 from distance and 37.7 percent overall as they dropped to fifth place in Big South standings.
