UMass edge Fordham 82-74

AMHERST, Massachusetts (AP) Derrick Gordon scored 20 points and Massachusetts edged Fordham 82-74 on Saturday.

Maxie Esho had 17 points for UMass (17-12, 10-6 Atlantic 10), while Donte Clark added 15. UMass shot 47 percent and outrebounded Fordham 42-28.

Fordham got down by eight early, but drew even on a 7-1 run - including Mandell Thomas' 3-pointer - and made its last six shots of the first half for a 37-33 advantage at the break.

A 13-0 run by UMass at the start of the second half, capped by Esho's dunk, put them up by eight. Fordham drew to within three after Thomas' 3-pointer with 2:48 left, but Gordon hit a jumper next time down for UMass and the Minutemen made 7 of 8 free throws to seal it. Fordham missed its last three shots and a free throw.

Fordham (9-18, 4-12) was led by Thomas with a career-high 29 points. Christian Sengfelder added 17.
