Coppin State pushes past Morgan State 88-77

BALTIMORE (AP) Sterling Smith and Taariq Cephas combined for 41 points to lead Coppin State to an 88-77 win over Morgan State, to break a ninth place tie in the Mid-Eastern Atlantic between the two teams.

Dallas Gary had 18 points and nine rebounds on 6-of-7 shooting and Daquan Brickhouse added 10 for the Eagles (7-21, 6-9), who shot 50.8 percent from the field and 57.1 percent from 3-point range.

Andrew Hampton had 18 points, including four 3-pointers, Cedric Blossom had 16 and 10 rebounds and Kyle Thomas added 15 points for the Bears (7-22, 5-10).

Morgan State assisted on 21 of its 30 made baskets.

Smith hit a 3 with 13:48 remaining to stretch the lead to 15, the largest deficit of the game. Five-straight Bears points cut Coppin State's lead to eight, but Morgan State would only score one point in the final 2:24.
