Dartmouth leads early, beats Cornell 56-45

ITHACA, N.Y. (AP) Alex Mitola and Malik Gill combined for 28 points and Dartmouth beat Cornell 56-45 on Saturday for its third straight victory.

Mitola and Gill each scored 14 points and Gabas Maldunas added 13 for the Big Green (12-14, 5-7 Ivy League), who out-boarded Cornell 34-19.

Shonn Miller scored for a 12-10 Big Red lead with 10:23 left before the break, but they didn't make another field goal, converting just 2 of 4 free throws for a 26-14 halftime score.

The Big Green led by 20 points with 7:35 to play when Robert Hatter made a three-point play, combining with Miller to score 12 straight points and make it 47-39 with 4:41 remaining.

Cornell (13-15, 5-7) shot 25.8 percent in the first 30 minutes but improved to 57 percent (8 of 14) for the remainder of the contest.

Hatter scored 23 points and Miller added 11 to lead Cornell.
