ELON, N.C. (AP) Tanner Samson made 8 of 8 free throws and scored 19 points to help lead Elon past UNC-Wilmington 74-55 on Saturday night.

Samson also made three 3-pointers for the Phoenix (14-17, 6-12 Colonial Athletic Association), giving him 98 this season which passes James Madison's Kyle Swanston for sixth best in CAA single season history. Austin Hamilton added 14 for Elon.

The Phoenix will play Towson on Friday in the first round of the CAA tournament.

Addison Spruill led UNC Wilmington (17-12, 12-6) with 15 points, which had an opportunity to clinch the outright regular season conference crown and the number one seed in the CAA tournament with a win, but will instead settle for the second seed.

Elon never trailed, opening on an 11-4 run to take a 37-22 lead at the break. The Phoenix pushed their lead to as many as 23 in the second half.
