Daniel hits winner; Howard edges Norfolk State 61-59 in OT

WASHINGTON (AP) James Daniel scored 19 points, including the game-winning 3-pointer just before the final buzzer in overtime, as Howard beat Norfolk State 61-59 on Monday night to break a 10-game losing streak to the Spartans.

Norfolk State's Rashid Gaston was whistled for an offensive foul with 35.5 seconds left and Daniel wound down the shot clock for the final shot.

James Miller added 13 points for Howard (16-14, 10-6 Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference).

Jamel Fuentes fouled out for Norfolk State with 20 seconds left in regulation after being called for an offensive foul. Howard turned it over on its next possession and D'Shon Taylor missed a 3-pointer at the buzzer.

Gaston led Norfolk State (18-12, 11-4) with 18 points and 15 rebounds. Jeff Short added 14.

Norfolk State can lock up the No. 2 seed in the conference tournament with a win over Hampton (12-16, 8-7) on Thursday or a Maryland Eastern Shore loss.
