SMU coach Larry Brown says prized recruit Emmanuel Mudiay would have significantly enhanced his team's fortunes, according to ESPN's Chad Ford.

Mudiay, a five-star recruit from the Dallas area, committed to SMU but opted to forgo college to spend this season with the Chinese Basketball Association's Guangdong Southern Tigers. A 6-foot-5 point guard and extraordinary athlete, Mudiay has missed time because of an ankle injury.

"If we had him right now, we'd be ranked one, two or three in the country,” Brown said, according to Ford.

SMU (23-6) is currently ranked 22nd in the Associated Press poll and sits tied for first in the American Athletic Conference with Tulsa. The Mustangs face the Golden Hurricane on Sunday in their final regular season game.

Mudiay has averaged 18 points, 6.3 rebounds and 5.9 assists overseas. DraftExpress rates him the fourth best prospect in the upcoming NBA draft.
