Top-seeded Iona holds off Siena in MAAC quarters, 74-71

ALBANY, N.Y. (AP) A.J. English hit six 3-pointers and finished with 32 points to help top-seeded Iona hold off No. 8 seed Siena 74-71 on Saturday in the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference quarterfinals.

English hit a contested 3 from the wing to give Iona a 72-67 lead with 35 seconds left. After a Siena missed 3-pointer, freshman Schadrac Casimir missed the front end of a one-and-one opportunity. Rob Poole made a layup to pull Siena within 72-69 with 11 seconds left, but English sealed it with two free throws for a five-point lead.

Isaiah Williams had 16 points and 11 rebounds for Iona (25-7). David Laury added 14 and 11.

It was English's fourth 30-plus-point game of the season.

Lavon Long led Siena (11-20) with 17 points on 8-of-10 shooting. Poole added 14 points.

Iona will face No. 4 seed Monmouth in the semifinals on Sunday.
